by Tony Christie and ft. Sting and Niall Rodgers
For 2023, we partnered with Music for Dementia to get people singing Thank You For Being A Friend up in care homes up and down the country. Together we helped choirs learn and perform the song in their local area, and launched an official single with Tony Christie, Sting and Niall Rodgers on June 27th.
As part of the recording of the single, we invited some inspiring volunteers who symbolise the kind of unsung heroes we want to celebrate this and every Thank You Day to the recording. They lent their voices and their experience to the finished piece, making our anthem a tribute to unsung heroes, by unsung heroes.
We also joined forces with the team at Young Voices to produce resources and support materials for schools to take part in singing the song in the run-up to July 2nd. School classes, choirs and youth groups sang for local care homes, NHS staff or other people in their communities who deserve to be celebrated.
Thank You Day is about making our communities stronger and including everyone in celebrating what makes them great – so at 12:55pm on July 2nd, BBC Radio 2’s Michael Ball Show led the whole country in a nation wide sing-a-long. Listen below!
